Located in Playa de Campeche, Florianópolis, Brazil, two independent residences designed by Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados are situated on a shared plot of land, where spatial restriction acts as the driving force of the project.

Located on Campeche Beach in Florianópolis, Brazil, two independent residences were built on a shared plot of land, while maintaining the autonomy of each. The land was divided in half and subjected to the regulations, resulting in a buildable area of just 4.5 m by 19 m for each house. This spatial restriction guided the project, influencing the site layout, construction system, and internal organization. The house emerges from the boundary and responds to it with intelligence and rigor.

The result is a vertical and permeable architecture, using few and understated materials. Sharing a party wall, the two houses are set back from the property lines to create perimeter green spaces, ensuring natural light and cross-ventilation throughout the interior. An accessible rooftop terrace further enhances the enjoyment of the outdoor social spaces.

The houses form an architectural ensemble that fosters respectful coexistence among neighbors who are friends, without sacrificing privacy. Entry is through the front garden of each home, which, through visual connections and circulation, demonstrates a delicate balance between the communal and the individual.

On the ground floor, the social areas are unified into a single space. The double-height ceiling in the living room and the large openings blur the boundaries between interior and exterior.suiteThe main bedroom faces the rear, with direct access to the garden. Upstairs, two additional bedrooms complete the layout.
