THE FRIDGE

THE FRIDGE

A temporary installation for ONATERI, designed by CLUBE, which occupies a former workshop in Hackney and is articulated from a self-supporting steel structure.

The Fridge is a temporary installation conceived for ONATERI's first activation and pop-up store. The concept of "the fridge" stems from the brand's own universe and is linked both to the peak of the London summer—the time and place where the event takes place—and to a collaboration with a gelateria. This idea is translated spatially through references to cold storage rooms, shelters, and unfinished spaces: raw structures with exposed systems and deliberately rough finishes.

Located in Hackney, a neighborhood with a strong industrial and artisanal tradition, the project occupies a former stable converted into a workshop, preserving original Victorian-era elements such as exposed brick walls and wooden beams. The intervention unfolds across two ground-floor rooms, connected by a small tunnel, and defined by the contrast between the existing dark brick and new, textured white surfaces.

The central element of the project is a linear steel structure, angular in plan, that traverses both spaces and organizes them into four programmatic areas: entrance and ice cream cart; bar, DJ booth, and restrooms; shop and checkout; and fitting rooms with storage area. This structure engages with the rhythm of the existing beams, reinterpreting and shifting it, while simultaneously framing the key pieces of ONATERI.

Conceived as a “found object” and crafted from shot-blasted carbon steel with a dark industrial finish, the structure is self-supporting, articulated with visible screws and joints, and topped with a mirrored strip that reflects and fragments the surrounding space. Around it, black wooden counters, a custom-designed coat rack, and translucent vinyl curtains—which function simultaneously as partitions and lighting elements—complete the setting.

THE FRIDGE confronts the specificity of the place with a raw, generic and almost fictitious atmosphere, inviting visitors to explore the universe of ONATERI in a space that combines the industrial, the scenographic and the intimate.
