Estudio Marcia Leal
A project by Sarturi Gumz Arquitetos for the interior renovation of a commercial space in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil, where a central table organizes the space and defines the architectural identity.

Estudio Marcia Leal is an interior renovation project for a commercial space located in Jaraguá do Sul, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The commission consisted of transforming an originally neutral and identity-less space into a functional, clearly organized hair salon with a defined architectural presence.

The intervention is structured around a precise spatial operation: a large, custom-designed central table that acts as the project's organizing element. This structure concentrates and distributes the program's various functions—waiting, work, and support areas—and allows for an open floor plan with visual continuity and a clear hierarchy of uses, avoiding the use of conventional partitions.

Materiality plays a central role in defining the space. A continuous ceramic floor unifies the surface and establishes a consistent color scheme. The central table, made of brushed terracotta quartzite, adds mass and material presence, while a ceramic brick lattice introduces a permeable spatial transition, capable of defining without closing off the area. The existing structural elements remain exposed, reinforcing a direct and honest understanding of the building system.

The project is completed with wooden furniture and carefully selected elements that engage with the architecture without competing with it. The result is a compact and coherent space, where identity arises from the organization, the materiality, and everyday use.
